Rotating electrical slip rings are electromechanical devices designed to transmit main power, auxiliary power and signals from a rotating part to a stationary part, enabling continuous 360° transmission.
Industrial applications of rotating slip rings
Rotating slip rings are used across a wide range of industries thanks to their ability to adapt to complex operating environments. They are essential in all industrial applications where power or auxiliary signals must be transmitted during continuous rotation. They can be integrated into grain storage systems and silos, earthmoving machinery and cranes, as well as water treatment plants and amusement rides. Their use is equally widespread in automated packaging, bottling and labelling lines, where they ensure operational continuity and long-term reliability. In recent years, they have also become increasingly important in renewable energy applications, such as wind power generators.
How a rotating slip ring works
The operation of a rotating slip ring is based on the interaction between two main components: the rotor, the rotating part consisting of conductive rings and the stator, the stationary part equipped with brushes. This system allows the transmission of main power, auxiliary power and dedicated signals from a rotating structure to a fixed one, preventing cable wear and twisting. This ensures smooth and continuous machine rotation.
Features and bespoke options
Rotating slip rings stand out for their high reliability and the possibility of being configured according to specific application requirements. Key features include:
– combined transmission of power and signals within the same device;
– compact and modular solutions.
Brushes in copper-graphite or silver-graphite, suitable for high currents and high rotational speeds. Improved contact continuity is possible thanks to the Touch-System technology (available on request for selected models). They can also handle Ethernet signals, PROFI-BUS, and CAN-BUS, enabling high customisation levels to meet a wide range of applications in different industries. Maintenance is simplified thanks to side-opening housings (on some models) and removable brushes. These features allow quick inspection and servicing of brushes and rings. Optional accessories include encoders and safety sensors for position control, internal passages for air, combined passages for water or oil (via rotary connections or pneumatic joints). Custom wiring solutions are also available to ensure optimal integration with the equipment.
